Environmental health continues to be an important part of the District's responsibility. Environmental health activities include the issuance of permits, such as those for new septic systems, repair of existing septic systems, and the installation of wells; conducting soil tests; reviewing land use proposals for compliance to state and local public health codes; and performing food service and related inspections.
The District is responsible for conducting epidemiological investigations for all communicable diseases, food borne outbreaks of illness, and reports of lead poisoning in the town and borough of Newtown. The District also responds to complaints involving potentially hazardous materials, inadequate housing, water contamination, vector control, and/or other threats to public health.
