Fatal Vehicle Incident

Sandy Hook, CT

April 2, 2017:  On this date at approx. 10:30 am Newtown Emergency Communications received a 911 call reporting a man had been run over by a vehicle in the driveway of his residence. Family members were on scene and had called 911.  Newtown Police responded with Sandy Hook Fire Department, and Newtown Ambulance to the scene of the incident. Upon officers arrival they found a severely injured man lying in the driveway of his residence located on Indian Hill Rd in Sandy Hook, CT. The first officers to arrive on scene attempted to provide first aid/cpr to the individual, but once a paramedic arrived on scene it was determined that the injuries were so severe that any further efforts would have no chance for survival and the individual was pronounced dead on scene.

The investigation is ongoing, but police will say that at this time, it appears the death was the result of a tragic accident. It appears that the individual was working on his personal vehicle in the driveway of his residence, with a jack lift, when for some reason the vehicle broke loose from its lifted position and rolled over the deceased causing his death. The vehicle continued to roll down the driveway and across the road where it crashed, unoccupied, into a neighbor’s residence directly across the street from the deceased.

The State of CT Medical Examiner was called to the scene to assist with the investigation.

The name of the deceased will not be released until all family members are notified.

The only information that will be released at this time is that the deceased was a 19 year old male that resided on Indian Hill Rd, Sandy Hook, CT.

Lt.Bahamonde: “No words can express the sorrow we feel for the individual, his family and the first responders who tried their best to save this man’s life during this most tragic accident.

An update is expected to be released tomorrow.
