Newtown Police & FBI Requesting Assistance

On Friday, March 24th at approximately 7:30 PM the Newtown Police were called to the area of 301 South Main Street (Newtown Village, Mobile Home Park) for a report of vandalism to a motor vehicle. Upon arriving the officer was shown two suspicious devices that appeared to be pipe bombs. The immediate area was cleared and assistance from the Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad was requested.

Members of the Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad arrived, and safely removed the devices. After rendering the devices safe a brief on site examination showed that the devices were filled with an energetic substance. The substance will be sent for further analysis in a forensic laboratory.  There were no injuries related to this incident and the case continues to be investigated jointly by the Newtown Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
