Police Commission

The Board of Police Commissioners is composed of five elected members serving four-year terms (not more than three from one political party).   

The Board of Police Commissioners' Responsibilities:

  1. Appoints the Chief of Police
  2. Appoints, promotes, suspends, and removes officers of the Police Department.
  3. The Board of Police Commissioners also serves as the Town’s Local Traffic Authority (LTA). The LTA approves all regulatory signs and markings on local roadways.
  4. Approve polices, rules, and regulations of the police department.

If you wish to submit any written matter to the Board of Police Commissioners to be considered for inclusion in the minutes of any meeting, please attend the monthly meeting of the Board or email the Board of Police Commissioners below. 

The meetings are typically held at 6:30 pm on the first Tuesday of every month at the Newtown Police Department headquarters, but check the official town calendar on the homepage for up-to-date meeting information.
