October 1, 2026 Revaluation

The Town of Newtown has contracted Vision Government Solutions to assist with the upcoming 2026 revaluation. Vision's Appraisal Division will work closely with the Assessor's Office to ensure an accurate and successful revaluation process.

Newtown’s last revaluation was completed for the October 1, 2022 Grand List. As required by state law, municipalities must conduct a revaluation every 5 years. An amendment to CT State Statutes created revaluation zones which pushed the Town of Newtown’s next revaluation from October 1, 2027 to October 1, 2026. Going forward revaluations will be conducted every 5 years as required by law.

Motor Vehicle Assessment Changes Effective for the October 1, 2024 Grand List

The Connecticut Legislature has changed how motor vehicles are assessed in the State of Connecticut for municipal tax purposes. Effective for the October 1, 2024 Grand List, Assessors are required to utilize the Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) and apply the statutory depreciation schedule to calculate the depreciated value of a vehicle. The depreciated value is then multiplied by the statewide assessment ratio of 70%, producing the assessed value for taxation.

The depreciation schedule begins at 85% for a vehicle up to one year old or less as of the Grand List date and reduces by 5% per year ending at 15% with a minimum assessment of 500.
