Building Department

PERMIT HOURS:  The office of the Newtown Building Department is open to the public.  Permit hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  No permits are processed online, and payment cannot be made online or by phone.  We accept check or cash for permit fees, and checks are made payable to:  Town of Newtown.  

QUESTIONS FOR A BUILDING CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL:  Should you have any questions or concerns regarding Connecticut State Building Code as it relates to your project or follow-up on a failed inspection, the Building Official and the Assistant Building Official are available in the office to answer questions from 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and from 3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on most days.  Please call ahead to confirm their availability (203) 270-4260.  

SCHEDULING INSPECTIONS:  To schedule an inspection, call (203) 270-4260 to speak with Mary or Tass.  Please plan on 2 to 3 days lead time for scheduling your inspection.  

PERMIT APPLICATIONS:  You may find a list of permit applications on the left of this screen.  To get a permit fee, please call (203) 270-4260.  The fee is based on the total cost written on your permit application.  Please don't hesitate to call us with any questions or concerns you may have.  

PLEASE NOTE: Once a permit has been paid for and issued no refunds will be granted.
