Pursuant to Conn. General Statutes Sec. 7-6, any person who is a registered voter in the Town of Newtown
or who is a U.S. citizen assessed for at least $1,000 for Real Estate or Motor Vehicles on the
2023 Grand List for the Town of Newtown is qualified to vote at the Referendum.
Absentee ballots may be applied for by any qualified voter unable to vote at the polls
due to the following reasons:
- My active service in the Armed Forces of the United States
- My absence from my town of residence
- Sickness
- My religious tenets which forbid secular activity on the day of the election, primary or referendum
- My duties as a primary, election or referendum official at a polling place other than my own during all of the hours of voting
- Physical disability

*Please note that absentee ballots for a referendum authorized to be held with less than 3 weeks’ notice cannot be mailed. If you need an absentee ballot, you must apply in person at the Town Clerk’s Office or you may designate someone authorized per the absentee ballot application to deliver your ballot to you
